Recent findings from a Pew Research poll indicate that nearly two-thirds of Americans, specifically 63%, feel that artificial intelligence is advancing too rapidly. This sentiment comes amid a notable increase in the use of AI technologies, with 49% of respondents admitting to using chatbots at least occasionally.
The rise in chatbot utilization has been substantial; back in 2024, only 33% reported using these tools, and the usage of ChatGPT alone has doubled since 2023, now reaching 44%. Despite this growth, public perception remains largely skeptical, with just 16% believing that AI will positively impact society.
Interestingly, younger individuals are both more likely to utilize AI technologies and hold a more critical view of its implications, reflecting a generational divide in attitudes towards this rapidly evolving field. As the AI landscape continues to expand, the dichotomy between usage and perception raises important questions about its future and societal integration.
