Google has begun the rollout of Android 17 to compatible Pixel smartphones, marking a significant update for the operating system. This release coincides with the June Pixel Drop, which brings additional exclusive features to Pixel users. Notably, the Bubbles feature has garnered attention as a standout addition, allowing users to open apps in floating windows by long-pressing their icons. This innovation enhances multitasking capabilities, as the bubbles can remain on top of other applications and are designed to facilitate easier navigation, especially on foldable devices where they can dock into a 'bubble bar'.

While Android 17 is initially available only on Pixel phones, other manufacturers are expected to roll out their updates throughout 2026, incorporating versions of some features. Google's Pixel phones now embody a customized build of Android, which includes distinct features that set it apart from the standard Android 17 version. This update has been in testing since the beginning of the year, with the final beta version recently released, paving the way for this official launch.
