Android 17 has officially arrived on compatible Pixel smartphones and watches, marking a significant update in Google's operating system lineup. Following an extensive testing period that began earlier this year, this update introduces several new features, with the most notable being the Bubbles functionality. This feature allows users to open apps in floating windows by long-pressing on an app icon, offering a more streamlined multitasking experience.
The Bubbles feature builds on a similar messaging tool that was previously available but underused. In this latest update, the bubbles can be minimized and will remain on top of other applications, providing easy access while multitasking. For users with foldable phones, the bubbles can dock into a dedicated 'bubble bar', enhancing usability.
While Android 17 is currently exclusive to Pixel devices, other manufacturers are expected to incorporate some of these features in their updates over the next few years, with a complete rollout anticipated by 2026. This update is part of the June Pixel Drop, which also includes a new version of Wear OS based on Android 17, further enriching the ecosystem for Google users.
