SanDisk has introduced a premium solution for expanding the storage capacity of the PlayStation 5 with its latest product, the Optimus GX PRO 850P NVMe SSD. This officially licensed accessory comes in various sizes from 1TB to a staggering 8TB. The largest version is touted to accommodate approximately 200 PS5 games based on average installation sizes, a significant enhancement for gamers looking to maximize their console's storage.
However, the steep price tag reflects the ongoing global memory shortage, with the 8TB model priced at $2,959.99—discounted from an eye-watering $3,699.99. This price point is striking, especially when compared to the recent price increases for the PS5 consoles; for the cost of one high-capacity SSD, consumers could purchase three PS5 Pro systems. While the smaller storage options are more affordable, the exorbitant cost of the 8TB SSD leaves many gamers questioning the value of such an investment.
